Still Here - Thanksgiving

Monday, November 24th, 2008

This Thanksgiving message is inspired by Lance White, a Senior Vice President at UBS financial services.

Lance wrote:

“We have so much to be thankful for. While we confront a world certainly not to our liking, it is important to focus on things that have changed for which we are all profoundly grateful.

Our flag is still here.
Our freedom is intact.
Ordinary Americans have shown, yet again, they are still heroes.
The bounty of our harvest, unparalleled.
A day in which we pause to give thanks…still here.
So much…still here.”

To this I add:

I’m still here.
My loved ones are still here.
My health…still here.
Food, shelter, warmth…still here.
My mind, still here.
The bountiful experiences of life…still here.
The beauty of love, still here.
So much…still here.

I am grateful on this day and every day.

Join the Kindness Cure

Join author and motivational speaker CJ Scarlet as she performs one act of kindness each day for a full year - 365 acts of kindness.

Kindness is the quality of being warmhearted, considerate, humane, and sympathetic. Kindness is a form of generosity.

Generosity and kindness are qualities that not only feel good and do good, but are good for you too!Current research shows that people who are kind and generous are healthier and happier than those who are more mean-spirited. Kind acts can involve the giving of money or monetary goods, but are just as effective, perhaps more, so when precious time and energy are given.

CJ learned about the power of kindness the hard way. At the age of 12 she was sexually assaulted. Then as an adult she was diagnosed with Lupus and Scleroderma. When she was told her long-term disability had become life threatening, her world fell apart. Then a Tibetan lama commanded her to “stop feeling sorry for herself and focus on the happiness of others” and her life was transformed. The lama next ordered CJ to teach others the secrets to happiness that she had learned and the idea for the Kindness Cure Campaign was born.

I have joined the Kindness Cure and invite you to join, too. Joining costs you nothing but the commitment to do one kind deed each week. Visit the Kindness Cure website and join in a worthy effort to spread kindness. Or just read about CJ’s kindness acts as well as those of others.

There are several groups you can join, including the Self-Kindness group which I host. I hope you’ll join in the spirit of giving kind acts, whether a simple smile, a helping hand, or something material. Kindness cures, not only helping the recipients of your kind acts, but helping you, too.

Kindness feels good!
